I used carry-on only, with a suitcase and a personal item that met Aer Lingus's rules. My bags were not weighed or measured on any of the flights.

Flying from Dublin to London on Air Lingus next week and I understand the carry on must be a certain size and under 22 lbs. Got that part down. But, the personal item size seems extremely small at 10x13x8. A basic school type backpack is much bigger than that and fits under a seat without a problem.
STUPID QUESTION. PLEASE HELP. My airline's size restrictions for personal items (not carry-on) is 13"x10"x8". However, the small backpack purse that I've purchased for my trip is 14.6"x10.6"x6". It doesn't have a thick material though, so I know that the bag can be "squished down" as long as it's not overstuffed.

We are flying Aer Lingus to Manchester via Dublin and I notice their personal item size is quite a bit smaller than other airlines such as BA and TAP who we will also be traveling on. Aer Lingus states personal item no larger than 10 x 13 x 8. I had planned to bring my backpack but even my small day pack does not meet
Always best to assume they will be strict, especially with a personal item. Having a carry-on checked is one thing, having to check my personal item, NO THANKS. Unfortunately US airlines have set a bad precedent by allowing too much and too big of carry-ons. The rest of the world can be quite strict on dimensions and weight of carry-ons.
